SHEPHERDING

Sheep are one of the first animals that were tamed and domesticated by man. The history of many nations is based on shepherding and pastoral culture. In Croatia shepherding has become one of the main sectors of farming. Sheep provide us with wool, milk, cheese and meat. They can cope with rough terrain, strong winds and rain. They walk gently down the slopes and hills, grazing on dry grasslands and are calm and timid animals in the company of which we can feel the warmth of coexistence between man and nature. Shepherding is an activity whereby one can experience feeding and herding of a flock of sheep. The shepherd gets a tripod, a shepherd’s crook and the unobedient sheepdog Riki. This activity is available in any season and it is appropriate for all age groups. In months before the summer you can also participate in sheep shearing.
